Acclimatize and Prepare
Machame is an ideal location for acclimatization before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. The village sits at approximately 1,400 meters above sea level, providing a perfect elevation to begin adjusting to higher altitudes.
Many climbers choose to spend 1-2 days in Machame before their trek to adjust to the elevation, learn about the mountain from local perspectives, and immerse themselves in the culture of the people who have lived in Kilimanjaro's shadow for generations.
The Machame Cultural Tourism Centre is also conveniently located near the Machame Gate, one of the main starting points for Kilimanjaro treks. We can arrange transportation between your accommodation, cultural activities, and the gate for a seamless experience.
